June. I don’t know about you, but this is another time of year that always helps me be curious about a refresh in my business. It’s that sweet spot where I’m far enough into the year to see what’s working…and maybe what isn’t…but there’s still time to make the shifts that count.
My goal? Be purposeful!
So let me ask you: Are you busy...or purposeful in your business or career?
Because there’s a difference.
And I want to talk about that today.
The Busyness Trap: When Effort Feels Like Spinning Your Wheels
If you’re an entrepreneur or professional, you know what I’m talking about.
Your days are jam-packed. Your calendar is a puzzle of meetings and calls, deadlines and to-dos. You’re “on” from the rising to the setting, but at the end of the day...you can’t quite put your finger on what’s actually moving you forward. 🤔
I call this the busyness trap. Ugh.
You’re working hard…maybe even harder than ever before. But it doesn’t feel like good momentum. It doesn’t feel like healthy progress.
Why?
Because busyness doesn’t always equal purposefulness. Intentionality. Authenticity.
Just a few of the essentials for a purpose-driven life. No wheel-spinning here! Just sayin. 😉
The Power of Clarity: Fuel for Your Business Momentum
Here’s where things get real:
Clarity is what turns hustle into forward movement.
Clarity is what turns hustle into forward movement.
It’s the difference between:
- Checking boxes because you think you should…and
- Taking action because you know it aligns with who you are and what you’re meant to do
Clarity on what is to happen. Commitment to what will happen. Consistency to make it happen. Let's go deeper...
Clarity on who you are, and what is to happen, leads to commitment to BEing for what will happen, that leads to consistency in DOing what makes it happen. BOOM!
When you’re clear about who you are…your uniqueness and your God-given calling…every step you take can be fueled by authenticity and purpose. That’s when you start to see real momentum, because…well…you’re ON purpose!
Let’s Get Practical: Three Questions to Find Your Clarity
Alright, let’s slow it down for a little get-real-behind-the-scenes for a second.
I’ve got three questions I weave in to use with my clients when they’re feeling stuck in the busyness trap. These might help you too. Based on the client, they sound something like:
- What do you want this season of your business (or career) to feel like?
Not just what you want to achieve…but how you want it to feel and what you want to experience.
Maybe you’re longing for more simplicity, or more creative freedom, or more margin to serve your clients with excellence. This might be hard to express. - Where are you feeling misaligned?
We all have those areas that feel off. Right? Where you’re pouring in SO much effort…but not getting the energy or JOY back. I’m not a fan of that.
Is it a project that doesn’t feel true to you? A role that’s no longer a fit for your purpose? This might be hard to admit. - What’s one small step you can take to realign?
I’m a big believer in small, simple, steady steps.
Clarity isn’t about overhauling everything overnight. Please…no. It’s about noticing what needs to shift, AND taking a best-next step that feels aligned. This might be hard to do.
Client Snapshot: Clarity in Action
I had a client, (we’ll call her Maya) who was at a pivotal decision-making crossroads in her personal and professional journeys. As a pediatrician, she worked hard to meet the demands of her patients and her practice.
Because she was also my daughters' pediatrician, I remember a sign in her waiting room that basically said, if you were there more than 15 minutes, please let them know at the front desk.
Wow. Impressive, right? I call that, excellence. And she and her office were all about it.
We did great things together for her physical health. We tapped into her emotional and mental health. We talked about her professional “health” because that seemed to always be lingering in the background. Yeah. Decisions, decisions. She was walking all around them. Something was off.
She needed clarity in business. So…we went there.
At the end of every training session, we'd discuss who she was...really. The deepest parts of her identity...not just the "personality test" results. We discussed when, where, and how SHE showed up in her practice. It was a process, and she walked it out.
Her physical strength made her stronger emotionally and professionally. She was finally able to make some tough decisions back then, and flourished for years in her practice afterward. Yay, Maya!
Then, one day, we reconnected. She was preparing for a trip with friends to…Greece! Yep. How exciting! Well…
Turns out, she had fallen back into patterns of behavior in her business, that left her feeling absolutely drained. Dull. Ready to quit.
But she knew the work she was doing (pediatrics) was what she was called to do. So…she revisited the work we had done. She said she remembered many of my words and phrases that kept her on track. She remembered some key things we had discussed and worked on, and decided to step away…WAY away…to ponder and practice. Literally, an open-ended leave.
Another tough decision. But she did it! Powerful.
When we spoke after her return, I’m happy to report…she was able to step back into her identity, which allowed her to step back into her practice renewed. She came back with a deeper level of understanding of the role SHE played in everything...and walked that out. Respecting boundaries was huge. And nothing suffered from the shifts made. 🙌🏽
We can do hard things! We just have to know WHAT to do…and HOW to do them…best.
Let’s Bring It Back to You
So here’s my invitation for you today:
- Take a breath.
- Step back from the busyness.
- Ask yourself those three questions.
Because clarity isn’t a luxury. Sorry.
It’s critical for building a business or career that’s sustainable, JOY-full, and true to what God has called you to do…in a way that He created you to BE.
Just because things are easy for you, doesn’t mean they are meant for, or best for…you.
Just because things are challenging for you, doesn’t mean they aren’t meant for, or best for…you.
Some things are worth exploring. Be curious. Be open. Be ready. Something IS coming!
Spiritual Grounding: A Verse to Hold Onto
I can’t talk about clarity and purpose without coming back to this:
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” – Ephesians 2:10
This is the foundation. You’re not here to just do more, my friend. You’re here to do what matters…what you were designed for. That’s where flow happens. And that's GREAT news!
Ready to Step Into Your Clarity?
If you’re feeling the nudge to move from busyness to purposeful this month, I’d love to talk. I work with people just like you…entrepreneurs and professionals…who want to lead with clarity and momentum.
Together, we’ll uncover:
- Who you are (your full identity)
- Where you’re headed (your unique calling, purpose, vision)
- How to walk it out with JOY and courage (inspired action)
- In a way that supports your overall well-being (self-care!)
Because you deserve more than busyness.
You deserve a business…and a life…that feels purposeful and alive.
And if it’s “just your career”…it still deserves your purpose poured into it, and you feeling alive in it.
Good works.
