Where to Focus for Your Emotional Well-Being
Recently, I was having a conversation with a client...

We talk a couple of times a week when she's on her way...somewhere. LOL Work. Coffee run. Job A to Job B. Home. It's how she navigates her life bridges, and I love connecting with her to support her in this way.

During this conversation, she was stressing a bit about her new job. Ok. A lot. And not just the job itself, as in the work...but the people she was working with, as well.

When she accepted the position, she did so with one understanding. Well...that changed almost immediately.

The change involves who she now works with, reports to, and supervises.

During our conversation, every once in a while, her voice pitch and volume would change. Like...upward.

Those were the moments when she was most passionate about what she was talking about. Her pitch would get higher. Her volume would get louder. She was expressing some major emotions...which is a good thing. You don't carry those into the office with you, for sure.

But to walk through this, we had to look at the difference between her reality and the truth. Perspective. πŸ‘“

Her reality was...
  • it wasn't fair
  • people were over-reacting
  • the person she now reports to is "weird" toward her
  • the people she's supervising seem to challenge her authority.
That's a lot to process...emotionally...every time you go to work.

The truth was...
  • not a lot in life is...fair
  • only she can choose to be in control of her reactions
  • only she can choose to show up as her best...consistently
  • her authority is earned (education/experience).
And yes, her authority is also given (role), but that part is limited, and knowing that difference is important in navigating her emotions.

See the difference?

Breathe.

So what can she focus on every day to keep her emotions and responses in check?
The truth. And in this case, the truth just happens to be where what she can control lies.

It's also important that she focus in on who she is...who God says she is...so that she shows up and responds authentically, and not emotionally.
That's identity and alignment.

We walked through a couple of scenarios, so as not to simply dismiss a reality she might experience. It's amazing what a different perspective will do for ya. 😎

It was a great coaching conversation, and she said she felt MUCH better going into work. She was "over" her reactions. LOL

She always says, "That's why I called YOU."

Will it solve all of her work problems? Nah.

But the next time reality pops up...she'll know how to respond. Not with emotions. But with truth.

I'd like to share a short video I created a while back, that talks about supporting your emotional well-being, and where your focus should be to do that. I trust you'll find value and encouragement in it.

I'd love to know your takeaways from my client's story and the video. Maybe a perspective shift for a bridge your facing? Do share!

Keep walking!
