Most of the conversations I have with people about the why of healthy habits, are around guilt, pressure, self-criticism, or medical reasons. Rarely is it a conversation that is around excitement, gratitude, or positive expectations. This makes me sad.
And every time, I’m thinking…you know…you can choose to care for your body and mind in ways that feel personal, enjoyable, satisfying, and good!
This makes me smile!
Joy-full wellness is about creating habits that support your health and well-being while also helping you feel connected to your life. Present IN it. Being grateful for what you CAN do, and looking forward to what you WILL do.
It allows you to move away from the idea that wellness only counts when it feels hard, strict, uncomfortable, or close to impossible. That’s not JOY.
I remember when I used to do personal training…either at a client’s home, or my home gym. I always wanted my clients to look forward to our time together. And they did! That’s because I created a sense of enjoyment in each experience.
What about you?
Maybe you’ve pushed yourself through workouts you disliked, followed food rules that made you feel weird, or tried to stay consistent with other wellness routines that didn’t fit your personality or lifestyle. Not fun. It feels like punishment.
Over time, this can make wellness habits feel like...chores.
Or maybe you’ve gone through the motions and gotten great results, but haven’t been able to sustain them. What happened?
Joy-full wellness offers a different path. Simple. It helps you discover what feels good, supports you, and makes healthy choices easier to return to…daily.
As your bridge guide, I’m here to help you rethink what wellness can feel like. Yep. A different lens. Because to me, wellness should feel like…wholeness.
You explore ways to find activities that naturally lift your energy, choose movement you enjoy, create food habits that satisfy you, and treat rest as real support for your overall well-being. Doesn’t that sound amazing? 😁
You learn how things like play, beauty, connection, and simple life pleasures can all become part of your well-being.
Joy-full wellness is about building a healthier lifestyle that includes care and pleasure, comfort and meaning. You don’t have to ignore responsibility, nor do you have to restrict yourself to only doing what feels easy in the moment...just to say you did.
There’s sustainability going on here. Because when your habits are simple and feel good in a real and supportive way, they become easier to repeat.
Here’s what I know to be true
You deserve wellness that feels like it belongs to you and supports you. Not like a set of rules you have to survive through, that leave notches on your belt.
Does that make sense?
Rethinking What Wellness Can Feel Like
Now that we have a little more clarity around the big picture, let’s dig a little deeper, shall we?
Joy-full wellness invites you to question the old ideas about a healthy lifestyle, and understand that it can still include structure, but it doesn’t need to feel like punishment. Like…all or nothing.
When wellness feels good, you are more likely to sustain it with trust instead of dread.
Healthy habits don’t have to feel hard or require a TON of discipline to count. They don’t. They can be simple. They can be easy-er than you think. They can even be…FUN!
Who knew?
Moving Beyond Punishment-Based Habits
Punishment-based habits often begin with the idea that you need to fix yourself. If you’re fixing, you might just push through workouts you hate...but you got them done, right?
If you’re fixing, you might follow food rules that you dread, but you ate the “stuff,” right?
If you’re fixing, you might feel like you can only rest after you feel completely drained, but hey…you didn’t interrupt your…flow. Is that right? 🤔
I say, step away grasshopper!
Habits like these can create short-term actions that give you short-term results. They’re not sustainable. That means they can also lead to resentment, avoidance, and getting stuck.
Moving away from this approach starts with changing the lens you’re looking through…your perception.
It starts with shifting the mindset you’ve been living through…your intention.
It also starts with the tone of your choices...your authenticity.
It starts with shifting the mindset you’ve been living through…your intention.
It also starts with the tone of your choices...your authenticity.
What would it look like to open your eyes every morning with gratitude, then asking yourself, “What would support my well-being today?”
Not review your mental to-do list, and see where you can squeeze wellness in. Or even IF you'll squeeze it in.
Not think of well-being as when you get stuff done. Or even as the stuff itself.
It's a small but powerful shift. Simple, right? But I always say, never underestimate the power of…simple.
For you, maybe this simple shift can help wellness feel like its caring instead of critical. Like prevention instead of trouble-shooting.
For me, it makes even the small things I do feel…enjoyable. 😎
Letting Enjoyment Support Consistency
Trust me…enjoyment can make consistency easier. When you like how a habit feels…during or after…you don’t have to rely on pressure or guilt to keep going. I mean…who knows…you may look forward to a walk in a peaceful area, or a colorful meal that tastes yummy. You might look forward to a calming evening routine that helps you REALLY relax, or a dance break in your living room whether someone is looking or not! LOL
Enjoyment doesn’t mean every habit will feel exciting every time, or that you’ll look forward to it every time. If I told you that…I’d be…yeah.
What it does mean is there is something about the habit that feels good, useful, or satisfying enough…to repeat. Connect those dots, will ya? Because that kind of connection can make wellness choices feel less forced.

Choosing Wellness That Feels Personal
Listen…your version of wellness does not need to match mine or anyone else’s. While the areas of wellness are the same, what makes them up can be totally different.
What might yours look like?
What matters most is you choosing habits in each life area that fit your energy, values, personality, and real life. Pulling in all areas of your identity helps you choose the actions that work FOR you, because they come FROM you.
Of course!
And when wellness feels that personal, it becomes easier to trust, step into, and keep walking in. You stop chasing rules that come from popular fads, and start building a lifestyle that feels supportive…from the inside out.
Finding What Naturally Lifts and Supports You
I’m being totally honest when I say that not every wellness habit will have the same effect on every person. Some activities may energize you, while to others they may feel draining, even if they are popular or recommended.
Finding what naturally lifts you means becoming curious about your own responses to...life. Instead of forcing yourself into habits “just because,” you begin to notice what gives you energy, calm, focus, comfort, or contentment. This helps you build wellness around what works for you, not what looks impressive from the outside.
Paying Attention to Energizing Activities
Start by paying attention to the activities that leave you feeling better than before. Now…hold on. I’m not saying that if they make you tired…like…you actually used energy…that you’re not better than before. LOL
Make sense?
This might include walking outside, stretching, cooking a simple meal, organizing one small area, listening to music, taking a quiet break, sending a snail-mail card, reading, gardening, or spending time with someone who makes you feel…safe. At ease. Good.
Wow. I'm revved up just listing those choices! 🙌🏽
You don’t need to analyze every detail, but it is important to notice which activities support a good mood and which ones leave you feeling tense or depleted.
Your body and mind will give you helpful clues. Pay attention. When something consistently helps you feel clearer, calmer, or refreshed, it just might deserve a regular place in your life. When it helps you feel more resilient, stronger, powerful...joy-full...it just might fit!
A perfect example was at the end of family time at a small lake recently. We all stood on the dock…watching the ducks and geese do their things. Pretty fun. LOL The weather was perfect. Breeze…perfect. Just the right amount of clouds to allow just the right amount of sunshine down on us.
Someone turned from the water, and leaned against the dock rail. “This is so relaxing. The weather is perfect,” they said with a smile.
Knowing them, my encouragement was, “You know…you can do this any time you want.”
“I know.”
And can I tell you that knowing you can make choices daily that support you, that feel good, that are relaxing and some parts might even feel perfect…isn’t enough.
Choice.
Choosing to make that part of your lifestyle to support your overall well-being…THAT’s what will contribute to your joyful wellness journey.
You can master wellness. Joy-full wellness.
